William P. " Bill" Lynch

William P. “Bill” Lynch, 81, of Lee Park and life-long resident of Hanover Township, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center following long period of failing health.

Born July 17, 1945, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Clara Schramm Lynch. Bill graduated from Hanover Memorial High School in 1964 and later Luzerne County Community College, earning a degree in restaurant management.

He served his country stateside with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was employed at the VA Medical Center in Phoenixville and later Wilkes-Barre for many years until retiring. He loved cooking for any occasion and catered picnics for many organizations. He also raised chickens and eggs and was known as “Chicken Bill” and probably had the only known chicken house fire in Lower Askam.

Bill was a member of Hanover Township Fire Departments proudly serving over 50 years and was active with the former Breslau Hose Company #5 and Franklin Hose Company #4. He participated in Fire School and was a member of 6 County Firemen’s Association for many years. He held his brothers at the Garfield Fire Department in Garfield, NJ very near and dear to his heart for many years. Oh the stories he has told us! He will be fondly remembered for being Santa Claus for the Breslau Fire Company as well as at the Boston Store at Christmastime.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Cramer, Charles M. Lynch, and Patricia Bogdon and several brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Surviving are his sisters, Mary Padden, Nanticoke, and Claire Cohen, Mountain Top; a sister-in-law, Barbara Lynch, Mountain Top; and several nieces and nephews.

The last few months did not treat our Uncle Bill well, but it allowed for time well spent with his niece, Tracy Zabrenski, her husband, David and great-niece, Taylor and her fiancé, Cody and nephew Mark Gusditis, his wife, Keri and great nephews Connor and Garrett. Just before he entered the hospital he had an opportunity to see Big Boy 4014 and it was truly one of the best days we had with him in a long time. He was smiling from ear to ear. We shared stories and memories that will last a lifetime. Some stories cannot be unheard, but that was our Uncle Bill and we loved him dearly. Even the day before passed, he was looking at pictures of the pumpkins Taylor is growing with his guidance with pride.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke, with Audrey Wysowski CLS, pastor of Askam United Methodist Church, officiating.

Friends may call for visitation at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
