William H. "Billy" Cannon Jr., 86, of Nanticoke, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Lakewood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, formerly Guardian Healthcare, Sheatown.
Born in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late William H. and Olga Shymansky Cannon Sr.
Billy was a 1955 graduate of Nanticoke High School. He began working for the Nanticoke cigar mill, but spent the majority of his career working at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in the escort department, where he was fondly known as "Boomer". After retirement, he worked as a school bus driver, was employed by Carter Footwear, and the VA Hospital in Lyons, New Jersey.
Billy was a member of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church, Nanticoke his entire life until it's closing, and currently St. Faustina Kowalska Parish. He was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus and enjoyed playing in the Teeners baseball league, but most of all bowling, camping, and spending time at the shore.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Alice Figliomeni and Martha Regulski.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-one years, Patricia Pizzirusso Cannon; a son, Patrick Joseph Cannon; brothers, David Cannon, and his wife, Louise, Ronald Cannon, and his wife, Jane, Harold Cannon and his wife, Marlene; a sister, Adrianne Fine; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 9:30 a.m., Thursday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke, with the Rev. Richard Gyansah-Tabiri as celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mocanaqua.
Friends and family may call for viewing and visitation hours from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
