Vilma D. Allabaugh, 98, of the Honey Pot section of Nanticoke, PA passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 18, 2026, a patient at Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, PA two days before her 99th birthday.
Born and raised in the Hanover section of Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late John (Hojak) Hoyak and Rosa (Ahlean) Ahlin Hoyak. Vilma attended the public schools in Hanover section then attended and graduated from Nanticoke High School. During her sophomore and junior year of high school, she and her sister, Rose, spent summers with the Kloss family in Maryland, where Vilma worked at the Oriole Cafeteria. Following graduation, she became employed at Household Finance, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a stenographer for several years. She also worked various part-time jobs, including retail.
After her marriage to Robert T. Allabaugh in 1948, they resided in Honey Pot and she became a full-time homemaker raising her sons. Her main interest in life was caring for her home and family. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Nanticoke.
Vilma will be lovingly remembered as a genuine, generous, and kind person who was deeply devoted to her family and a great inspiration. She will also be remembered for her beautiful blue eyes and smile.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert, with whom they shared 68 years; brothers, John Hoyak, Vincent Hoyak, Ado (Otto) Dernoll, and Woodrow Wilson Dernoll; and sisters, Rose Sanders and Lillian Snyder.
She is survived by her sons, Robert D. Allabaugh and his wife, Judith, of Windsor, PA; and Ryan Allabaugh, at home; and several nieces and nephews.
Vilma’s family sincerely thank all of her doctors, the staff at Third Avenue Health and Rehab, Kingston, PA and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for the wonderful care they provided.
Private services will be held from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke. Interment will be in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Township, PA
There will be no public viewing or calling hours.
