Ronald J. May Sr., 85, of Nanticoke passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026, a patient at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born November 30, 1940, he was the son of the late George and Helen (Kruszka) May. Ron graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1959. In 1968, he established Ronnie’s Service Center, his auto repair business in Nanticoke. In 1988 he was joined by his son, Ron Jr. working together until his retirement in 2014.
He was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke and previously St. Francis of Assisi Parish prior to the consolidation of the parishes. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 839, Nanticoke. He always had an avid interest in cars in general. In the early 1970’s he had several cars that he raced at Pocono Drag Lodge, unofficially breaking a track record there with his 1957 Chevy drag car. He also sponsored cars that raced at Evergreen Raceway in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.
Although very stubborn in his ways, he would do anything he could to help. He leaves us many fond memories and those that knew him will certainly miss his unique personality - always letting everyone have it every chance he got.
Surviving is his wife, the former Gertrude Prestash, with whom he would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 21st; son, Ronald J. May Jr., and his wife, Brenda of Hanover Twp.; grandson, Ronald J May III (RJ); granddaughter, Brianna Avery and husband, Michael; his great granddaughter, Adalynn Avery; sister-in-law Teresa Zelek and husband, John of Arizona; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard May and his wife Stella, and his brother-in-law Robert Prestash.
