Obituary

Robert T. Metcalf Jr., 51, of the Askam section of Hanover Township, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, where he was a patient since sustaining injuries in an accident on February 2nd.

Born March 5, 1971, he was a son of Robert T. Sr. and Norma Wodarczyk Metcalf. Rob was a lifelong resident of Askam, Hanover Township and graduated from Hanover Area High School in 1989. He continued his education, earning an associate's degree in architectural engineering from Luzerne County Community College.

He was employed by the United Parcel Service for over thirty years and delivered out of the Pittston hub.

Rob loved anything with wheels since he was young. He especially loved his jeeps. The love he had for his jeeps was only surpassed by the love he had for his family. He enjoyed riding quads and laughing with friends. Rob will be remembered by many for his big personality, his smile, quick wit and hilarious stories. He had a remarkable way to connect with everyone. If Rob was around, you knew it was going to be a good time. He will leave a huge hole in the hearts of many friends and family. Even just sitting on the porch turned into a fun time with friends, family and of course food.

These words cannot possibly sum up the life of such a beautiful person, but is a glimpse into knowing him. We will always cherish the brief time we had.

He was a member of Askam United Methodist Church; the Teamsters Union; and many jeep clubs.

In addition to his parents, Robert Sr. and Norma Metcalf, he will be deeply missed by his sister, Michele Ponko and her husband, John; nieces, Madison and Macey Ponko; aunts, uncles; numerous cousins; and all who knew Rob.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Mark Metcalf; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas G. Metcalf; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Wodarczyk; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
