Richard J. Myers Sr., 94, of Hidden Acres, Hanover Township and former long-time resident of Tilbury Terrace, West Nanticoke, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born June 15, 1931, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Alan and Emily Eitel Myers. He was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School and proudly served his country during the Korean War era as a Morse Interceptor with the Army Security Agency. He was honorably discharged in 1955, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He furthered his education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in English from Wilkes College.
Prior to retiring, Richard was employed for many years by AAA Automobile Club and Martz Trailways, where he was an Excursion Tour Manager. Following his formal retirement, he enjoyed working as a manager at Huntsville Nursery and at Wegmans.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre, where he served and chaired on committees, sang in the choir, and assisted with Communion for many years. A Mason, he belonged to Nanticoke Lodge # 332, Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg, as well as Irem Shriners with the Chanters Unit; and was a former member and Past President of the Kiwanis Club, Wilkes-Barre. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lois Tremayne, with whom he observed their 66th anniversary on January 1st; his son, Richard Myers Jr. and wife, Lisa of Muhlenburg Township, PA; his daughter, Ellen Lyn Parmenteri and husband, Dale, of Larksville; grandchildren, Abigail Myers and husband, David Dakota Blair; Alison Myers; Kerry Anne Adams; Richard Myers III; and Matthew Parmenteri and wife, Alia; great grandchildren, Junia Myers Blair and Montgomery Parmenteri; a sister, Barbara Speicher of Wilkes-Barre Township; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Myers.
Richard’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Geisinger Medical Center as well as Allied Hospice Center for the wonderful care they provided.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 14th, at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 190 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Wes Poole, his pastor, and the Rev. Peter Kuritz, officiating.
Friends may call for visitation at the church on Saturday, March 14th from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mr. Myers’ memory to Allied Services Hospice; Wilkes University "Colonels' Cupboard" Community Pantry; or a charity of the donor's choosing.
