Obituary

Mildred J. Rees Plummer, 92, of Jenkintown, PA, and native of Nanticoke, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Jefferson Abington Hospital, Abington, after a brief illness.

She married Allan L. Plummer on May 3, 1951, after a courtship that began when she saw him creating a display in the window of the F.W. Woolworth store in Nanticoke and decided to apply for a job there to meet him. They enjoyed and dedicated themselves to each other and their family. He preceded her in death on their fifty-third wedding anniversary in 2004.

Born May 3, 1931 in Nanticoke, she was a daughter, one of fourteen children, of the late John H. and June Thomas Rees. Her early family life was full of love and good times with her parents and siblings, both in Nanticoke and Lake Silkworth, where her family had a summer home. Mildred was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, with the class of 1949, and that year represented Nanticoke at the Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival in Wellsboro.

She furthered her education attending Manor College where she studied retail and in 1961 started a career with the historic Strawbridge and Clothier department store in Jenkintown. She retired as a manager with over twenty-five years with the company. Following retirement, Mildred volunteered with the Jenkintown School District for many years.

She and Allan were members and active volunteers with the former Grace Bible Church, Huntingdon Valley. More recently, Mildred attended First Baptist Church of Bordentown, NJ with her daughter, Susan.

Millie will be remembered for her beauty, both inside and out, her generosity and her love of family and friends, as well as her determination, grace and courage.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Allan, Mildred was preceded in death by all her siblings: Lawrence Rees, Madge Rees, Lois Leete, Almena Vaughn, Malvern Rees, Rev. George Edward Rees, Mary Domaleski, Laureen Watts, Grace (Nancy) Rees, Jane Turley, Howard Rees, Shirley Fleet, and Ronald Rees.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Onaitis and companion, Albert Hepner; a son, John Plummer and wife, Aixa; grandchildren, Rebecca Patel and husband, Ankur; Andrew Onaitis and wife, Desiree, and Jane Plummer; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
