Michael P. Sawczuk PhD, 78, of Alden Station, Newport Township, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was married to the former Jean Beggs with whom he celebrated fifty-five years of marriage on September 2nd.
Born April 9, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, he was a son of the late Wasil and Helen Makohin Sawczuk. Michael graduated from John J. Pershing High School, Detroit. He also was a graduate of Wilkes College and University of Pennsylvania, earning a PhD in Business Management.
He began employed with Ford Motor Company in Michigan and RCA Corporation in Mountain Top. He was last with Penn State University, as an associate professor of business management, until retiring in 2006 after twenty-four years.
Michael was a member of Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, Hanover section of Nanticoke, where he loved singing in the choir. He was an avid reader and spent hours working in his yard. He enjoyed antique cars, and was a member of the Antique Car Club, and belonged the RCA Cardinal Club.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jean; a brother, William Sawczuk (Joyce); sisters, Donna (Rev. Michael) Rozmarynowycz; Ann (Chuck) Clogg; and Nancy (Albert) Sabon; the Beggs and Siergiej families and aunt Chesterine, which were such a wonderful part of his life; as well as nieces and nephews. Michael will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Viewing and visitation hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke.
Parastas will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Walter Pasicznyk, his pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Hanover Green Cemetery.
