Leon A. Sidas, 82, of the Alden Station section of Newport Township, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at his home.

Leon was born in July 1942, in a farmhouse up on Pond Hill, Wapwallopen, to the late Leon and Anna Salokis Sidas and eventually became part of a large family with five sisters and one brother.

The family subsequently moved to Glen Lyon, where he attended the local schools and graduated from Newport Township High School in 1960, and later from Luzerne County Community College in 1971.

During his life, Leon was a son, a student, a proud U.S. Army veteran, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and finally, a great grandfather.

Traveling was an important part of his life. He visited all 50 states.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings.

Surviving, is his life partner, Virginia Pickle; daughter, Vanessa Golombek, and her husband (Greg); son, Jason L. Sidas and his spouse, Jarunan; stepson, Brian Pickle and his wife, Laurie; step daughter, Christine Kropiewnicki and her husband, Jamie; sister, Lenore Kline; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

He bids all family, friends, and especially those he worked with on St. Faustina food making projects, a fond adieu as he continues on his final journey, along with a THANK YOU, one and all, for allowing me to be a part of your life.

Prayers will begin Tuesday, March 11th at 10:30 a.m. from Dinelli Family Funeral Home 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Chrisitan burial at 11 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 11th from 9 a.m. until transferal to church.

Entombment with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
