Joseph L. Gluchanicz, 91, passed away peacefully December 2, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home in Sun City West, Arizona.
Born December 20, 1933 in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Michael and Natalie Wisniewski Gluchanicz. He graduated from Nanticoke High School, class of 1952 and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a radio operator on the carrier USS Gilbert Islands and was a submariner. As a patriotic veteran, Joe and his fellow sailors attended yearly reunions all over the U.S. to celebrate their country and their service.
Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Joe returned home to attend Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, earning a bachelor’s degree in English and Economics. He also earned a Master’s degree and certifications from the University of Scranton. While teaching high school in New Jersey’s Bergenfield School District for forty years, he also attended William Patterson College and Montclair State College in New Jersey, furthering his education.
In 1966, Joseph married his soul mate, Eileen Lade of Fair Lawn, NJ. Together they raised two sons, Michael and Paul. Their family grew to include Michael’s wife, Susan, and grandchildren, Dr. Alice Gluchanicz and Chloe Gluchanicz; and Kyle and Amanda Gluchanicz.
Along with his father, uncle, brother-in-law, and a close friend, he designed and built a summer home at Lake Henry in Wayne County, PA, where his family enjoyed many summers of lakeside and country living. In 1996, Joe and Eileen retired to Arizona.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen (his “Schatzi”); his children and grandchildren; his sisters, Micheline (Gluchanicz) Jeziorski of Hanover Park, IL, and Judith (Gluchanicz) Nowak (Edward) of Plymouth Township; and several nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, May 2nd at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Nanticoke with the Rev. Brian F. Van Fossen, pastor of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, officiating. Miltiary honors will be provided by the US. Navy.
