Jay H. Munson, 63, of Nanticoke passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
A life-long resident of Nanticoke, he was born April 17, 1957, the son of the late Harold and Isabelle Smith Munson. He graduated from John S. Fine High School, Nanticoke, class of 1975 and furthered his education earning an Associate degree from Luzerne County Community College.
At an early age, Jay began a long career working in commercial sales in the tire business and was currently employed by McCarthy Tire Service, Wilkes-Barre.
A veteran Fire Fighter, Jay served the community for forty-two years, joining as a volunteer with Lape Hose Company #2 of the Nanticoke Fire Department in May of 1978. He was sworn in as Deputy Fire Chief for the department on February 4, 2004.
Jay was a faithful and active member of Nebo Baptist Church his entire life; serving as a deacon for forty-five years and was Treasurer of the Deacon Fellowship Fund.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, Annette Smith.
Surviving is his loving wife of thirty-six years, the former Debra Kollar; his son, Keith Munson, his daughter, Shelby Munson, and granddaughter, Hope Gould.
A Memorial Service will be held next Sunday, April 25th at 3 p.m. at Nebo Baptist Church, 75 S. Prospect Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. Timothy G. Hall, his pastor, officiating.
Friends will be received at the church an hour prior to the service.
Private interment will be at the convenience of the family.
