Jan R. Makowski, 73, of East Main Avenue, Wanamie, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 2, 2021.
He was born in Nanticoke, one of five siblings, to the late Leo and Elizabeth (MacAfee) Makowski.
Jan was a graduate of Newport Township High School. After graduation he enlisted with the U.S. Coast Guard and received an honorable discharge. He attended Luzerne County Community College and worked for Galli Readi Mix Concrete. He retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot after forty-five combined years of service.
Enjoying a simple lifestyle, Jan enjoyed outdoor activities, archery, hunting, rifle season for deer, hunting turkeys and bass fishing with his wife until her passing. He was a proud member of the White Eagle Club, Lee. He also enjoyed watching Notre Dame, Penn State and Northwestern college football.
Jan especially enjoyed spending quality time with his son's family and grandson, Garrett. Sunday visits from his sister Kathy and husband, Bob were cherished.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-five years, Yvonne and a sister, Joyce.
Surviving are his son, Lee, his wife, Melanie and their children, Madisyn and Garrett; brother, Michael and wife, Cheryl of Hancock, NY; sister, Kathleen Volpicelli and husband, Robert of Virginia; brother, James and his wife, Elyise of St. Augustine, FL as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A casual viewing will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke. A prayer service will follow the visitation at 7 p.m.
Private interment will be in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Glen Lyon.
