Fred Galinski

Fred Galinski, 92, of the Lincoln Heights section of Hanover Township, passed away Monday morning, July 20, 2026 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a brief illness.

Fred was born November 13, 1933 in Hanover Township a son of the late Ignatius and Stella Lada Galinski. A graduate of Hanover Township High School, he enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1954, serving stateside during the Korean Conflict with Company B 508th Tank Battalion. He attained the rank of SP3 before transferring to the Army Reserves.

He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Laborers’ Union for over 40 years. Fred worked for Hedden Construction; Culp Brothers and Sordoni for many years, prior to retiring.

He was a member of Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, Buttonwood; life long avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. In his younger years, he was an excellent baseball player and attended spring training for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years the former Margaret Donahue passed on Nov. 23, 2011; and former wife Marie who passed in 1973; sisters, Sophie Chimento, Theresa Valvicin, Loretta Galinski; and brothers, Robert and Charles Galinski.

Surviving is his cousin, Joe Lada, who Fred treated like a son; sister, Geraldine Licatta; nieces, nephews, and cousins..

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 27th at 10 a.m. at Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, 420 Main Street, Hanover Township (Buttonwood) with the Rev. Richard J. Cirba, his pastor, as celebrant.

Entombment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Hanover Township.

Friends may call for viewing and visitation at the church Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass.
