Frank J. Uranowski, 94, of Nanticoke, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Allied Hospice in Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Andrew and Catherine Bonarek Uranowski.
A Sergeant in the Marine Corps and a combat veteran of the Korean War, he lived a life of service, devotion, and love. He was especially proud of his Marine Corps service.
He was married for 71 years to the former Norma Krygier. After serving his country in time of war, he became a Corrections Officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections at the State Correctional Institute at Chase, retiring from there after 34 years.
He was an avid hunter, having much success during hunting season. His gardening skills, especially with tomato plants, were second to none. From the first sign of spring until harvest time, he meticulously tended to his plants and garden.
A fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, and Penn State Football, he rarely missed a televised game.
He was a faithful member of the former Holy Trinity Church, now Saint Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke, and was devoted to his daily prayers. He was a member of the American Legion Post 350 in Nanticoke for 37 years.
He was the youngest of nine children, and in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter, Karen; grandson, Randy Davies and his wife, Katie. He also leaves behind the light of his life, his great grandson, Jacob. Additional survivors include his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Henrietta and Chester Zaremba, who he thought of as his sister and brother; sister-in-law, Diane Krygier; nephew, Michael Zaremba and his wife, Megan; niece, Jennifer Krygier; and grand nephews, Tyler and Braden Zaremba.
Funeral services with prayers will begin 10:30 am on Thursday, from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 East Broad Street, Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial 11 am at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 South Hanover Street, Nanticoke.
Interment with military honors, will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.
Viewing and visitation hours will be 6-8 pm, Wednesday evening, at the funeral home.
