Florence T. Tomko, 91, formerly of Nanticoke, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Allied Services (St. Luke's Villa) where she was a patient since July, 2019. She lived on West Main Street, Nanticoke for many years and later, Pittston and Lee Park Towers.
Born January 15, 1930 in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Tessie (Zdziarski) Szatkowski. Florence graduated from Bradford Beauty Academy, Wilkes-Barre in 1948 and early in life and was a beautician at Albin's Beauty Shop, Nanticoke as well as waitress at the Hilltop Inn for several years. She worked for many years in the garment industry, including Holly Dress, Joann's, Greenbaum's and last at Sans Souci Frocks, before retiring in 1974.
She was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish and formerly Stanislaus Church and had been an active member of American Legion Post #350 Ladies Auxiliary many years. She loved crocheting, making hats for newborns and donating them.
She and her husband, Edward Tomko were married for 30 years, until his passing on April 21, 1982. She was last member of her immediate family, being preceded by her sisters, Stacia Szatkowski, Chesterine (Tessie) Finn and Alfreda (Fritz) Pryce and her brother, Alfred S. Szatkowski Sr.
Surviving are her daughters, Debra Albanese and husband, John of Nanticoke and Sandra Tieso and husband, William of Pittston; four grandchildren, Edward Grabinski (Tiffany), Nicole Tieso, David Grabinski (Amy) and John Albanese (fiancée, Emily); seven great grandchildren, Olivia, Tyler, Emily, Kendall, Andrew, Abby and Peyton as well as several nieces and nephews.
Viewing and visitation hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, primary site, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. James R. Nash as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
