(Verfin) Van Pelt
August 9, 1937 – July 17, 2024
Evelyn T. (Verfin) Van Pelt, 86, affectionately known as "Sunny", of Sheatown, and formerly of New Jersey, passed away Wednesday morning, July 17, 2024 at Lakewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Nanticoke.
Born in Nanticoke, August 9, 1937 to the late John and Laura Czekaj Verfin. She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School. Upon turning eighteen, she moved to New Jersey, where she lived most of her life, until moving back to the Sheatown section of Newport Township in 2004.
A veteran, she was honored to have served in the United States Women's Army Corps for two years, and was honorably discharged in November, 1957.
Evelyn was a proud union member and worked in the photograph paper industry for many years. She was last employed by Sun Chemical Corporation as a lead person, until retiring.
Her hobby was gardening and she loved reading.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Verfin, and Joseph Verfin; and her sister, Jean Cholewa.
She will be deeply missed by her numerous nieces and nephews.
A blessing service will be held 6 p.m., Wednesday July 24th from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke, followed by Army military honors.
Viewing and visitation hours will be from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
Private interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.
