Elizabeth M. Hankey Smith, 87, of Bear, Deleware, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at her home.

A native of Glen Lyon, she was born May 11, 1935 the daughter of the late Margaret Hankey. She attended the Newport Township schools.

She began a long career working in the garment industry, first in the local area and later while living in New Jersey, and lastly in Delaware, where she resided for many years.

Among other hobbies, she enjoyed sewing and floral designing and arranging. Her most important interest in life was her home and family and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also brought two fur babies into our family that provided her with much joy and laughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. (Red) Smith on June 11, 2018.

Surviving are three children; a daughter, Nancy J. Smith-Brown and husband, James H. Sr., of Glasgow, Delaware; sons, George R. Smith Jr., of Bear, Delaware; and Russell J. Smith Sr., of Newark, Delaware. She was blessed to have nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke, with the Rev. Roger C. Noss Jr, pastor of the Mount Moriah United Methodist Charge, officiating.

Interment will be in Newport Cemetery.

Viewing and visitation hours will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the family.
