Eleanor J. Messimer, 88, of Nanticoke, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, March 17, 2023 at her home.

Born May 28, 1934 in Sugar Notch, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary Rodack Elmy. She graduated from the former Sugar Notch High School, class of 1952 and resided in Hanover Township most of her life.

Eleanor was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and employed in the local garment industry for thirty-five years until her retirement. After retiring, she enjoyed serving as a caregiver for the elderly for many years.

Eleanor was the last member of her immediate family, being preceded in death by sisters, Jean Diveglia, Florence Montigney, and Irene Mayo; and brothers, George, John, Edward, and Henry Elmy.

Surviving are her sons, Robert Messimer and wife, Linda, of Mountain Top; Ron Messimer, with whom she resided and was her devoted caregiver for the past eighteen years; and Joseph Messimer and wife, Christina, of Wisconsin; three granddaughters, Carissa, Kerri, and Kylie; two grandsons, Joe and Zack; three great grandchildren, Beau, Margot, and Aden; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Eleanor's family sincerely thank the nurses and staff of Residential Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke, with the Rev. Barry M. Lohman, pastor of Zion United Church of Christ, Nanticoke, officiating.

Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
