Obituary

Edward Schwartz of Lower Askam left his earthly home on October 4th, 2024

Born on May 9, 1941, Ed was a graduate of Nanticoke High School in 1959. He worked for the railroad and Penn Refrigeration before his 30 years working at King Fifth Wheel in Mountaintop prior to his retirement in 2004.

Ed was a man who put his family first, and enjoyed life's simple things such as pizza, football and beer. He enjoyed fishing, walking in the woods, and taking rides in the fall with his wife and family to enjoy the foliage of the season. His sons enjoyed going to countless ball games with their dad over the years.

Edward was a man of strong faith. He was a prominent and devout member of Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church in Nanticoke. He helped organize the "Traveling Stations of the Cross" through the Ukrainian Catholic Churches of the Wyoming Valley during lent. He was most recently the church's cemetery caretaker. He attended Divine Liturgy weekly until his health no longer allowed. While there he loved to listen to the Divine Liturgy sung by the Holy Year Choir of which his wife Mary was a member. He enjoyed watching Liturgies from around the world when confined to his home.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Elizabeth (Bukoski)

Schwartz.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Mary (Marek), Son Nicholas (Cheryl) Ruther Glen VA, their children Christopher and Elizabeth. Son Brian (Gina) Hunlock Creek PA, and their children Zachary, Peyton, and Samantha. Brothers George (Maria) Clementon NJ, Mark (Debbie) Honey Pot PA. Six nieces and nephews as well as 9 great nieces and nephews. They will assuredly continue his grandmothers request to "keep the family together."

A viewing will be held on Wednesday October 9th from 7-9 pm, with Parastas at 8:00 pm at Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 East Broad Street, Nanticoke PA.

Funeral Liturgy and Panachyda will be 10:00 am Thursday at Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church 240 Center Street, Hanover section of Nanticoke with the Rev. Walter Pasicznyk, his pastor, as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Nanticoke.
