Chesterine V. Grycewicz

Chesterine V. Grycewicz, 100, of Nanticoke, passed away Saturday evening, August 22, 2026 a guest a Allied Services Center City Skilled Nursing, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a patient for the past 2 years.

She was born July 20, 1926 in Nanticoke, a daughter of the late John and Bridget Butka Charnecki. She graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1944 and resided in Honey Pot section for most of her life. She married William Grycewicz on April 11, 1953. He preceded her in death on July1, 1986.

Early in life, Chesterine lived and worked in Paterson, New Jersey before returning home to work for Lazarus Department Store, Nanticoke, and later MacGregor Sportswear until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish and the Honey Pot Auxiliary.

She and Willy enjoyed traveling to Pocono Downs and Penn National, carefully analyzing horse races. They enjoyed dancing and having fun at the 400 Club and the American Legion.

She loved her trips to Atlantic City and Ocean City, Maryland, drinking her favorite cocktail, “PIDA”; having dinners with the Stashaks and Boyles, and holidays at Marya and Billy’s home with Jacob and Shirley.

In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, John, Felix, Ben, and Francis Charnecki, and Chester Stone; sisters, Helen, Celia, Mary, Jean, Gertrude, and Johanna; nephews, Chester, William, David, and John Beggs; sister-in-law, Catherine Charnecki; and her best friend, Judy Stashak and husband, Ronnie.

She will be deeply missed by all her Charnecki, Beggs, and Grycewicz nieces and nephews including Darlene Hardiman, Cathyann Boyle (Pat), Hugh Beggs (Helen) Jean Sawczuk, Cynthia Siergiej (Dave), and Chester Stone (Beverly); numeous great nieces and nephews, including Marya and Hope, whom she babysat; close friend and godchild, Lisa Cywinski (Jeff), as well as Brian Stashak (Michelle) and family, and Shirley Siegiej.

As nephew John would say, “Rest in peace, Popovini”

Chesterine’s family sincerely thank the entire staff at Allied Services Center City Skilled Nursing as well as Dr. Patrick Kerrigan for the exception care they provided.

Funeral services will begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a,m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. Brian F. Van Fossen, her pastor, as celebrant.

Viewing and visitation will be Friday from 9:30 a.m. until transferal to the church.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
