Chester D. Beggs, 79, of Nanticoke, passed away Monday afternoon May 1, 2023.
Born May 7, 1943 in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Hugh Sr. and Genevieve Stoj Beggs. After graduating from Nanticoke High School, he enlisted and served with the U.S. Army for three years. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged with the rank SP5 in June, 1966, receiving the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; and Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Beggs was employed by the Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution, Dallas, retiring as a Lieutenant after 33 ½ years.
He was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke and previously St. Stanislaus Church for most of his life; American Legion Post # 350; the former VFW Post # 290; and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #834. He enjoyed golfing and had been the president of the Nanticoke Hackers and was a former social member of Wyoming Valley Country Club. He also served with the Nanticoke Municipal Authority for several years.
Chet enjoyed the many good times spent with his family, and especially attending his grandsons' sporting events. He will be deeply missed. "Long live the king".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Beggs Sr., John Beggs, and David Beggs; a brother-in-law, Michael Sawczuk; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Beggs.
Surviving is his wife, Kathryn (Kathy) Stout Testa Beggs; son Chester W. Beggs (Jamie), Nanticoke; grandsons, Chester James Beggs and Carson Spencer Beggs; step son, Darren Testa (fiancée, Kim Mikielski); step daughter, Laurie Fleming (James); step grandchildren, Nicholas and Kyle Fleming and Maddux Testa; a brother, Hugh Beggs Sr. (Helen); sisters, Jean Sawczuk and Cynthia Siergiej (David); sisters-in-law, Barbara Beggs and Gina Beggs; an aunt, Chesterine Grycewicz; former wife, Judy Briscoe; as well as the Briscoe and Stout families; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Services will begin 9:30 a.m. Monday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. Richard Gayansah-Tabiri, as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will be in Hanover Green Cemetery.
Friends may call for viewing and visitation hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
