Barbara A. Jezewski Shimko, 83, of Nanticoke, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 3, 2025, at Allied Service Hospice Center in Wilkes-Barre.
Born May 6, 1942, and raised in West Nanticoke, she was the oldest of three children of the late Stanley and Helen Burdenski Jezewski. Barbara attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School, Nanticoke and finished her education at St. John Nepomucene, Stratford, Connecticut as member of the commercial class of 1958.
While starting her floral business in her family garage on Canal Street, West Nanticoke, Barbara worked for Commonwealth Telephone in Shickshinny and Dallas. In November of 1976, Barbara moved into her present location and opened Barbara's Custom Floral Creations. Barbara was the proud sole owner of her business for nearly 50 years. She allowed her creativity to flourish while serving the floral needs of the Wyoming Valley. Her talent, dedication, and care touched countless lives through the beauty she brought into their most important moments of their lives through her floral work.
Barbara was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She took great pride in her business and family. She gave her family many cherished memories to hold onto.
Surviving are; daughter, Angie (Shimko) Rittenhouse, Mark Shimko and wife, Jody Shimko; grandchildren Justin Shimko, Ashlee Rittenhouse-Baker and her husband, Brandon Baker, Cory Shimko and his wife, Destani; great- grandchildren, Jeremiah, Haven, Atticus, and Braxtyn Mark Baker; a sister; Carolyn Brozowski, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Stanley Jezewski and a brother, Stanley Jezewski Jr. all of whom held special places in her heart.
Family and friends are invited to attend viewing and visitation hours to celebrate Barbara's life and legacy on Monday, July 14th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 15th at 10 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke. Those attending the funeral Mass are asked to go directly to the church Tuesday morning.
Barbara's family would like to deeply and sincerely thank the medical team at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and the staff at Allied Hospice Center, Wilkes Barre for the wonderful care given during the final days of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to Allied Services Hospice Center Wilkes Barre.
