Alfred D. Maga, 89, of the Sheatown section of Newport Township, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Hampton House, Hanover Township.


Born February 8, 1935, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Zigmunt and Josephine Krawulski Maga.


He was a Nanticoke High School graduate and attended Penn State University, University Park, where he met his wife, Nancy.


Alfred enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country, and was a pilot in training during the Korean Conflict.


Earlier in life, he worked for Air Products, and later had a thirty-five year long career with the Western & Southern Life Insurance Company, retiring as district sales manager.


Alfred was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke. He was previously a member of Holy Child Church, Sheatown, for many years, until the consolidation of parishes.


He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, gardening, and metalworking.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four siblings; Mary "Mamie" Makowski, Bernard Maga, Eleanor "Norch" Kellmel, and Pat Kotsull.


He will be deeply missed by his wife, the former Nancy Crouse Maga, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage; a son; Paul Maga, and his wife, Linda; a daughter, Holly McCloskey, and her husband, Dr. David McCloskey; grandchildren, Nicholas McCloskey and his wife, Erin, and Kelly Subers and her husband, Gavin; great grandchildren; Madelyn McCloskey, and Roman Subers; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Viewing and visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday July 29th from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke.


A blessing service will begin at 12:30 p.m., with Deacon Herbert Cruikshank, St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, officiating.


Private interment in Hanover Green Cemetery will be held at a later date.
